In this lesson, we learn how to say and understand time in Uzbek. You will learn how to ask “What time is it?” in Uzbek, the names of hours, halves and quarters of an hour, and how the words soat, yarim, chorak, kam, and o‘tdi are used. There are exercises with audio, listening practice, speaking, and writing. If you have forgotten Uzbek numbers, links to previous lessons with audio are provided at the beginning of the lesson. This lesson is suitable for beginners and will help consolidate listening, speaking, and writing skills in Uzbek.
Before starting the exercises, recall the numbers in Uzbek — from 1 to 30. Say them in order (bir, ikki, uch,… o’ttiz), then skipping one (ikki, to’rt, olti,…), then jumping three ahead (uch, olti, to’qqiz,…), and finally every fifth number (besh, o’n, o’n besh,…).
If you forgot Uzbek numbers, you can find lessons with audio and exercises on the Yep.uz website at the links:

Now look at the picture and answer the question: Bu nima? The answer, of course, will be: Bu soat. Now look at your clock, phone, or computer and try to answer in Uzbek the question Soat necha? (What time is it?). If you don’t get it, don’t worry. In this lesson, we will learn to say and write time in Uzbek.
Time in Uzbek
Exercise 1. Listen and repeat the time in Uzbek (look at the top picture). Then close the labels and try to say the time in Uzbek from memory.
yarim — half (30 minutes)
chorak — quarter (15 minutes)
o’tdi — past
kam — to (before)
Also remember that oltmish minut = bir soat.
Notes on saying time in Uzbek
“kam” and “o’tdi” always require a clear order:
kam + hour: o’n minut kam sakkiz
from something + o’tdi: sakkizdan o’n minut o’tdi
“minut” and “soat” — singular.
“yarim” always comes after the number: soat sakkiz yarim.
Time comprehension practice in Uzbek
Exercise 2. Listen to the time and draw the hands. Stop after each time and draw the hands.

Exercise 3. Practice saying the time from the previous exercise while looking at a clock with hands. You can work with a partner. One of you asks (Birinchi soat. Soat necha?), and the other answers ((Soat) yigirma minut kam to’qqiz.).
Exercise 4. It is also better to do this with a partner, asking about the time and drawing hands. But it can also be done alone, acting in both roles.
You ask about a clock without hands. Example: Birinchi soat. Soat necha? You are answered Soat sakkiz yarim. and you draw the hands.
