In this lesson, we will learn popular phrases in Uzbek that are useful when getting acquainted, meeting someone, or talking about someone. You will learn how to ask: “Who is this/that?”, “How old is (he/she)?”, “How are you?” — and how to answer these questions. We will also practice saying “See you!” in Uzbek and describing a person. At the end of the lesson, there is mini vocabulary on the topic “home,” which will be useful in the next lesson. All phrases are accompanied by audio from a native Uzbek speaker.
Uzbek phrases for greetings and meetings
Exercise 1. Listen and repeat the phrases in Uzbek. Try to memorize them.
U kim? — Who is he/she?
U necha yoshda? — How old is he/she?
U juda chiroyli. — She is very beautiful.
Qalaysiz? — How are you? (Qalaysiz? is a colloquial expression. A more neutral form: Yaxshimisiz?)
Men yaxshiman. — I am fine.
Bu Fotima. — This is Fotima.
Ana u mening avtobusim. — That is my bus.
Bu mening avtobus bekatim. — This is my bus stop.
Siz qaysi/ nechanchi sinfdasiz? — What grade are you in?
(Sizning) telefon raqamingiz nima? — What is your phone number?
Ko’rishguncha! — See you!
