In this lesson, you will learn how to speak Uzbek in typical everyday situations: when checking into a hotel and when booking a table over the phone. You will practice stating a reservation, spelling your last name (harflab aytish), indicating the number of guests, the time of the visit, and understanding clarifying questions. All phrases are accompanied by audio and transcription.
Phrases for hotel check-in and booking a table at a restaurant
Exercise 1. Memorize these phrases. Listen to them and repeat.
bronlaganman / bron qilganman — I have booked
Harflab ayting. — Spell it out.
Kechirasiz. — Excuse me.
Xayrli tong. — Good morning.
Rahmat. — Thank you.
(Nima) xizmat? / Labbay. / Sizga qanday yordam berishim mumkin? — How can I help you?
Menga ertaga stol kerak. / Iltimos, ertaga stol bron qilishim mumkinmi? / Men ertaga stol band qilmoqchiman. — A table for tomorrow, please.
To’g’ri. — Correct.
Let’s go over some phrases in more detail.
bronlaganman / bron qilganman — I have booked
- bron qilganman — “I have booked.”
- bronlaganman — colloquial variant of “I have booked.”
- “I have a reservation” in Uzbek also can be translated as Joy bron qilingan — “the place is booked” (passive form).
Recommendation:
If you want to emphasize that you made the booking yourself, use:
- Men joy bron qilganman.
- Men oldindan band qilganman.
There is a difference between “I have booked” and “I have a reservation.” If you want to use an impersonal, passive construction, use joy bron qilingan. Sometimes it may sound better.
(Nima) xizmat? / Labbay. / Sizga qanday yordam berishim mumkin? — How can I help you?
The three forms have different styles:
| Phrase | Translation | Style |
|---|---|---|
| (Nima) xizmat? | “What can I get you?” / “How can I help?” | conversational, traditional |
| Labbay. | “At your service!” / “I’m listening to you” | old Uzbek, polite-traditional |
| Sizga qanday yordam berishim mumkin? | “How can I help you?” | neutral-polite, modern |
All three phrases are used depending on the situation (from a café to a hotel reception).
Menga ertaga stol kerak. / Iltimos, ertaga stol bron qilishim mumkinmi? / Men ertaga stol band qilmoqchiman. — A table for tomorrow, please.
- The first option is the simplest, but not very polite: “I need a table for tomorrow.”
- The second is a polite question: “May I book a table for tomorrow?”
- The third is descriptive: “I want to book a table for tomorrow.”
Also recommended:
- In conversation: Ertaga stol kerak edi. (more polite)
- Or: Ertaga stol band qilmoqchiman, iltimos.
