Uzbekistan’s national carrier, Uzbekistan Airways, has announced a reduction in flight frequencies on several routes to Russia, citing a shortage of aviation fuel and rising fuel costs.
The airline announced the upcoming changes on June 12. According to its statement, the reductions will affect certain routes between cities in Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation. However, the carrier did not specify which flights would be reduced or cancelled.
“Due to a shortage of aviation fuel and the increase in its cost, we are forced to reduce flight frequencies on certain routes between cities of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation,” the airline said.
Passengers affected by cancelled flights have been offered free rebooking on the next available flights or a full refund of their tickets without penalties.
The announcement came less than two weeks after the Russian government decided to temporarily ban exports of aviation kerosene.
Under Russian government Resolution No. 646 of May 30, 2026, exports of jet fuel have been prohibited from the beginning of June through November 30. Authorities said the measure was intended to maintain a “stable situation on the domestic fuel market” and ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies for Russian consumers.
The ban also applies to aviation kerosene purchased through exchange trading. Exemptions include fuel already on board aircraft, certain shipments cleared before the restrictions took effect, and supplies delivered under intergovernmental agreements.
Russia remains one of the largest destinations for international air travel from Uzbekistan. Flights connect Tashkent and other Uzbek cities with Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Khabarovsk.
In its statement, Uzbekistan Airways stressed that flights to Russian cities continue to operate, although schedules have been adjusted due to the situation on the aviation fuel market.
The company advised passengers to check the latest flight schedules before traveling.
