According to the latest information, eight citizens of Uzbekistan were among those killed in a drone attack on facilities in Nizhnekamsk (Tatarstan, Russia) on August 10. Earlier, Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Kazan reported seven fatalities.
According to law enforcement authorities in Tatarstan, 13 people were killed.
“Unfortunately, seven citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan (A.D.K., U.S.A., B.O.M., A.R.E., Kh.D.R., Kh.F.F., and I.D.F.) were among those who lost their lives in this tragedy,” the Consulate General said in a statement. According to the latest data, the number of Uzbek citizens killed has risen to eight.
The diplomatic mission expressed its deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the victims. It added that the situation remains under its supervision and that it is coordinating with local authorities and investigative bodies to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
After forensic examinations and the completion of all required official procedures, the bodies of the deceased will be repatriated to Uzbekistan.
According to the authorities of Tatarstan, 13 people were killed in the drone attack on Nizhnekamsk. Another 75 people sought medical assistance, including 21 who were hospitalized. Local officials said that citizens of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan were among the victims.
The Russian Investigative Committee stated that the drones struck residential areas as well as industrial facilities. A criminal case has been opened under Russia’s terrorism legislation.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the target of the strike was the Taneco oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk. Ukraine reported that the facility had been hit and that a fire broke out, but did not comment on reports of casualties.
According to Uzbek authorities, all eight victims were employed as construction workers by a construction company operating in Nizhnekamsk. Several Uzbek citizens were injured and hospitalized.
By order of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a government commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov has been established. A special working group consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Migration Agency and other government bodies has been dispatched to Russia.
The Government of Uzbekistan stated that the bodies of the deceased will be repatriated on a special flight and that the families of the victims will receive all necessary assistance.
