The 21st meeting of the Council of Heads of Security and Intelligence Agencies of the CIS member states began on October 17 in Samarkand.
At the opening session, Secretary of the Security Council under the President of Uzbekistan Viktor Makhmudov read a welcoming message from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the participants.
In his address, the head of state noted that the global situation is developing under complex geopolitical conditions amid the intensification of traditional and emergence of new threats directly affecting the interests of CIS countries. According to Mirziyoyev, the escalating armed conflicts are alarming, as they may transform into large-scale destructive wars.
The president emphasized the need to develop “fair and balanced approaches” to resolving hotspots of instability based on historical experience and international law.
The message also highlighted that Uzbekistan remains committed to the political and diplomatic resolution of international issues for the sake of stability and security in the region and the sustainable development of CIS states.
Mirziyoyev identified as a priority for the security and intelligence services of the CIS countries the “effective coordination of joint efforts” in addressing challenges that threaten the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional foundations of their states.
