A table of 40 Uzbek alternatives to borrowed foreign words, shared by Alisher Qodirov

On July 31, Alisher Qodirov, a member of Uzbekistan’s Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, published a table of Uzbek equivalents to commonly borrowed foreign words on his Telegram channel. The list includes 40 terms related to technology, logistics, politics, and daily life.

Qodirov, the leader of the Caucus of the Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, commented:

“Even if this annoys certain groups of fellow citizens, it is a significant step forward…
The fate of the Uzbek language depends on us.
To prevent the Uzbek language from becoming incoherent and chaotic, we must use these words and continue the process within the bounds of reason.”

The original source or author of the table is not specified. Examples of suggested replacements include “avtoboshqaruv” for “autopilot”, “muztog‘” for “iceberg”, “yo‘lboshchi” for “leader”, “ilg‘or” for “progressive”, “ishchi dastur” for “syllabus”, and “axborot texnologiyalari” for “IT technologies”.
