Mirziyoyev invites Trump to Uzbekistan after discussing strategic partnership

On September 5, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. The main topic of the discussion was the further strengthening of Uzbek-American relations, the expansion of strategic partnership, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

According to Mirziyoyev’s press service, the U.S. President highly appreciated and supported the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan aimed at modernizing the economy and improving the welfare of the population. In response, Mirziyoyev congratulated Trump on the achievements of U.S. domestic and foreign policy and emphasized the American side’s contribution to the peaceful resolution of international conflicts.

The leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the economy and trade. In 2024, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 15 percent. The portfolio of promising cooperation projects covers sectors such as civil aviation, critical mineral resources, the electrical engineering industry, energy, agriculture, digital technologies, the financial sector, innovation, and education.

Active cooperation in the field of security was also highlighted, particularly in combating terrorism, extremism, and illegal migration. Cultural and humanitarian exchanges are expanding, including the operation of branches of leading U.S. universities in Tashkent.

Special attention was given to sports achievements: the U.S. President wished success to the Uzbekistan national football team at next year’s World Cup in the United States.

At the conclusion of the conversation, Mirziyoyev invited Trump to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan, and both sides agreed to continue contacts at the highest level to advance joint projects. The phone conversation was held in an open, constructive, and friendly atmosphere.
