President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will be in China from August 30 to September 3. His press service and the president himself, during a speech at the ceremony dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the country’s independence, confirmed this. Mirziyoyev is traveling to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“In the coming days we will take part in another major forum – the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in China, as well as in a number of meetings and events within its framework,” the president of Uzbekistan said at the August 29 ceremony. “In this regard, after celebrating Independence Day today together with you, with all our people, we plan to depart tomorrow to participate in this summit. Undoubtedly, its results will also serve to strengthen the role and position of New Uzbekistan on the world stage, and to achieve the strategic goals of our multi-vector foreign policy.”
He also described the current global situation as “ambiguous” and the present time as “difficult.”
Uzbekistan celebrates Independence Day on September 1. At that time Mirziyoyev will be in China.
According to his press service, on August 31 – September 1, Mirziyoyev will take part in the SCO Heads of State Council meeting and in the “SCO Plus” summit in Tianjin. The agenda includes expanding multilateral cooperation “in priority areas” and further improving the organization’s activities. The outcomes are expected to include the adoption of the Tianjin Declaration, joint documents, and decisions in the fields of security, digital economy, “green” industry, energy, tourism, and other areas.
Talks with Xi Jinping and official meetings
On September 2 in Beijing, the president of Uzbekistan will hold talks with Xi Jinping and meet with officials and heads of Chinese companies.
Celebrations of the 80th Victory anniversary
On September 3, Mirziyoyev will take part in celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II. A military parade is scheduled to take place in Beijing.
According to the Chinese government, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will also attend the events.
Information about the SCO
The SCO currently includes 10 member states: Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Two countries have observer status – Afghanistan and Mongolia. The permanent bodies of the SCO are located in Beijing (Secretariat) and Tashkent (Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure).
