Uzbekistan Airports and an international consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Vision Invest have signed a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement for the construction and operation of a new international airport in Tashkent, the company said on June 17.

The consortium also includes Japan’s Sojitz Corporation and South Korea’s Incheon International Airport Corporation. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

“Today we have taken an important step toward its implementation,” said Uzbekistan Airports board chairman Javlonbek Umarkhodjaev, adding that the project is expected to meet growing passenger and cargo demand for decades and strengthen Uzbekistan’s position “as a key transport hub in Central Asia”.

Under the agreement, private partners will be responsible for building and operating the passenger terminal and forecourt area, while the state partner will handle the construction and operation of the airside infrastructure.

Uzbekistan Airports said environmental and social impact assessments had been carried out prior to the signing, along with PPP documentation and preparatory works for the future site.

The new airport is planned in the Urtachirchik and Kuyichirchik districts of Tashkent region, covering 1,310 hectares. It will include two 4-kilometer runways, a 208,000-square-meter passenger terminal, 98 aircraft stands, a fuel complex, and an air traffic control tower.

Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2030. According to Uzbekistan Airports, the airport will be able to handle up to 20 million passengers and 300,000 tons of cargo annually once operational.

Plans for the airport were previously announced by Uzbek authorities. In October 2025, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the ceremony marking the start of the project.
