Uzbeks fighting on the side of Russia were spotted by Ukrainian troops in the Vovchansk area. This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on August 4 in his official Telegram channel.

On August 4, the President of Ukraine visited the positions of Ukrainian forces in the Vovchansk direction of Kharkiv region, where fierce fighting is ongoing to defend the city. He met with soldiers of the 17th Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion of the 57th Brigade named after Koshovyi Otaman Kost Hordiienko and held a meeting with unit commanders.

According to Zelenskyy, they discussed the current frontline situation, combat dynamics, drone supply issues, as well as recruitment and direct brigade funding.

Soldiers on this front line, the president said, recorded the presence of foreign mercenaries fighting for Russia — including from China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and several African countries. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine will respond to this fact.

“We will respond,” wrote the Ukrainian president.

At the end of his visit, the head of state presented state awards to the soldiers and thanked them for their service and mutual support.
