Uzbek national captured by the AFU — Ukrainian soldiers have taken into custody another citizen of Uzbekistan who fought on the Russian side. A video of his interrogation, where he describes his journey to the front line, has already surfaced online.
In the footage, the Uzbek prisoner, dressed in military uniform, answers questions posed by Ukrainian soldiers. He claims he previously worked in construction in Russia before being recruited and sent to the front.
From Construction to the Front Line
The Uzbek man, identified as Umit (as stated in the Telegram post), speaks freely on camera. In the video, the prisoner says that due to low wages in Uzbekistan, he went to Russia to work as a builder and hoped to obtain Russian citizenship. He was promised a Russian passport along with significant financial rewards.
“They paid 2 million rubles. I used 100,000 myself, sent 800,000 home, and 1,100,000 is still on my card,” Umit says.
According to the detainee, he had no prior combat experience. He said he had never served in the army before and this was his first time at the front.
Circumstances of Capture
It is reported that the man was wounded during an assault and got lost. He ended up in Ukrainian positions in the Lyman direction, where he was captured.
This is not the first time that Uzbek nationals fighting for Russian forces have been captured by Ukrainian troops.
Earlier, I reported on the emergence of a list of 1,110 Uzbeks fighting on Russia’s side against Ukraine. A video also circulated showing six Uzbek prisoners of war in Ukrainian custody appealing to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for help.
