Mirziyoyev visits Pakistan’s GIDS defence company and discusses military cooperation

Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspects GIDS military equipment in Pakistan

During an official visit to Pakistan on February 5, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the headquarters of Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS) in Islamabad and held a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

According to reports, the sides discussed key issues related to the further development of Uzbek–Pakistani cooperation and strategic partnership. Particular attention was paid to expanding interaction in the military and military-technical spheres, as well as coordinating efforts to counter modern security challenges and threats.

The talks also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperative ties between leading enterprises of the defence-industrial complexes of the two countries. The parties discussed expanding training programmes for military specialists, exchanging experience, and conducting joint exercises and training activities.

The Pakistani side presented the delegation with information on GIDS’s portfolio, including defence solutions, industrial capabilities, and technological developments. The President of Uzbekistan was familiarized with samples of modern Pakistani military equipment and weapons displayed at the enterprise.

In addition to defence-related topics, the meeting addressed issues of accelerating the implementation of promising infrastructure projects in the transport and logistics sector.

Following the переговоров, an agreement was reached to prepare a separate roadmap for the development of military and military-technical cooperation.

On the same day, in the presence of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, a Roadmap between the defence ministries of the two countries was signed.
