The building of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, whose branch has been announced in Tashkent

Three new higher educational institutions are planned to open in Tashkent: a branch of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the “TashTech” Technical University, and the Almalyk State Technical Institute. This was reported by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan following a presentation on education system reforms.

“In Tashkent, branches of Bauman Moscow state technical university, TashTech technical university, and the Almalyk state technical institute will be opened,” the statement said.

I tried to find out at what stage the process of their establishment in Tashkent currently stands.

1. Branch of Bauman Moscow State Technical University

The branch of Bauman Moscow State Technical University will become the 15th representative office of Russian universities in Uzbekistan. This was announced in April by the Chairwoman of the Senate of the Parliament of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, during her meeting with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia.

The opening of the branch is planned in Tashkent. Details about the timeline and study programs have not yet been reported.

2. “TashTech” Technical University

“Tashkent Tech” will be established on the basis of Tashkent State Technical University. The purpose of the new institution is to train a new generation of engineers and to increase the attractiveness of technical fields among young people. The concept of the university is being developed with the support of Boston Consulting Group. The plans were announced in May by Saida Mirziyoyeva.

3. Almalyk State Technical Institute

The Almalyk branch of Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov is already functioning in the city of Almalyk, Tashkent region. It was established on the basis of the Almalyk mining and metallurgy faculty of Navoi State Mining Institute. Fields of study include “Metals Technology,” “Mining Electromechanics,” “Mining Engineering,” “Mechanical Engineering,” and others.

No information has been found regarding plans to expand or change the status of the branch in connection with the recent statement of the presidential press service.

Thus, of the three mentioned institutions, only two — the branch of Bauman Moscow State Technical University and “TashTech” — are new institutions planned to open in Tashkent. The Almalyk branch of Tashkent State Technical University is already operating in Almalyk.

For further information about the planned openings, it is recommended to follow the official statements of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan and the presidential press service.
