The joint military exercise “Power of Unity – 2026” involving servicemen from Azerbaijan, Turkey and Uzbekistan has begun in Azerbaijan.
According to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Defense, the exercise started at the Gizilgaya training center in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh Economic Region. The drills involve military units from the defense ministries of the three countries, as well as military equipment, naval forces, aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The main objectives of the exercise are to improve readiness for joint operations, enhance coordination between troops and strengthen the combat capabilities of participating units. Military officials also highlighted the importance of exchanging experience and further developing practical cooperation among the armed forces of the three countries.
The three-phase exercise will take place at the Gizilgaya training ground in the Karabakh Economic Region, the Karabakh training ground in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the Boyuk Zira training ground in Azerbaijan’s sector of the Caspian Sea.
The drills began less than a month after the state visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Tashkent. The key outcome of that visit was the signing of the Treaty on Eternal Friendship between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
The document reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to further deepen their relations, which had already been formalized through the Treaty on Allied Relations and a number of other strategic partnership agreements.
Against this backdrop, the joint exercise has become one of the most visible examples of practical military cooperation between Tashkent and Baku. While bilateral relations have previously focused primarily on investment projects, transport initiatives and humanitarian cooperation, the current drills demonstrate the growing interaction between the armed forces of the two countries.
